The ships aren’t identical twins although they are almost identical sizes. Disney Fantasy is better for longer 7-night cruises while Disney Dream primarily offers 3-night and 4-night sailings. Having sailed four of Disney Cruise Line's five ships, I can say the experience is indeed special — especially if you have kids.
